Very Happy with our System
We had the pleasure of working with Garrett Lee and his crew (Ethan and Dakota) on a solar system with a battery power backup installed by his business New Leaf Solar. Garrett spent time with us initially looking at our proposed site for the solar panels and pointing out that we had additional appropriate areas for panels. We found Garrett open to suggestions, accommodating, intelligent, and pleasant. The system has worked very well, and we are able to power some vital functions, such as our furnace, wood stove fans, freezers and refrigerator, and select lights and outlets during an outage. Garrett did a wonderful job with the sizing of the system, going over the explanation of different options of the components we could use and what the benefits were compared to one another. Next came the time to install, he and his crew arrived with the complete system. Mother Nature being as fickle as she could, we had rain, high winds, thunderstorms everything but snow. The crew made great use of their time working inside when they couldn’t outside. In a timely manner the job came to completion. Set up and training us on the operation of the installed equipment was explained so that even my wife and I understood the process of starting up, things to check while the system is running and how to shut down for the season when we leave. Hi there, I’m Garrett from New Leaf Solar.
My passion for renewable energy all began in a Global Climate Change class at SUNY Potsdam. The class was about how world leaders were unifying to combat climate change.
I quickly realized that these leaders all have their own prerogative on the urgency of global climate change. Two weeks into the class, I became frustrated by the inaction of world leaders. My major was Geology, minor in Environmental science. After a mining internship in Alaska in 2008, I realized that it didn’t give me the sense of satisfaction I was looking for. With Global Climate Change then becoming more mainstream and urgent, I wanted to take initiative and do my part. After graduating in 2009, I found a job as a solar installer. Soon after, I advanced to supervisor, then to installation manager, site survey engineer, and finally project manager/solar sales.
Feeling confident that I could use my skills and knowledge to help more families transition to clean solar energy, I resigned from my solar sales position to start New Leaf Solar, LLC.
On a more personal level, I currently live in Upstate NY with my wife and two boys. We are in the process of building a tiny house that will be free of fossil fuels, heated and powered by solar energy. How cool is that?! When I’m not working, you can find me with my family, on my bike or exploring somewhere out in the wilderness!

I wanted to be part of the solution! Everyone wants clean air, clean water, affordable electricity, and jobs….right?
I knew I could help so many people– all the people that had looked into solar before but didn’t commit, people who had solar modules or equipment that was waiting to be used, people who had been turned away because their idea of solar didn’t fit into a conventional mold.
I believe that everyone should have the right to access free energy from the sun. I’ve made it my mission to not only help people go solar, but also to make them feel good about their decision in choosing renewable energy.
